About the event

Lathallan School and Scots Law Talks are thrilled to introduce for the first time, the Crime, Law, and Forensics Camp this October. Join us for a 3-day camp delving into legal systems, criminal justice, and forensics:

Day 1: Exploring Crime and Society

In this part of the study camp, we will consider the following:

What types of crime is there? How is crime viewed by society? And, how are communities affected by crime?

You will have the opportunity to consider real-life cases and understand the societal factors that contribute to criminal behaviour. As well as looking into the commercialisation of crime through film, tv and popular culture.

Day 2: Our Legal System in Action

Here we will delve into the intricacies of the legal system in Scotland, through considering the following:

What courts are there in Scotland? How does a criminal trial work? And what do legal professionals do?

You will learn how the processes of prosecution and defense work in criminal cases and understand the courts in which they would be heard. You'll have the chance to role-play different positions within a courtroom, from being the defence agent to being a juror, honing your skills in communication and critical thinking

Day 3: Unravelling the World of Forensic Science

In this section, we will focus on forensic science:

What is forensic science and why does it matter? What types of evidence do forensic scientists work with?

Through-out the final session, we will look at notable cases where forensic science has helped solve modern-day crimes. You will also have the chance to get hands-on as we examine our own fingerprints and learn about the classification of fingerprints. You and your fellow attendees will be able to test how good your recovery skills are - as we use forensic equipment, ink and powders to recover fingerprint evidence!

By the end of this 3-day Camp, you'll have a well-rounded perspective on the complexities of crime, the intricacies of the legal system, and the cutting-edge science that helps unravel mysteries. Whether you're considering a career in law, criminal justice, or forensic science, or simply have a keen interest in these fields, this camp is sure to be an enlightening and engaging experience.
